Doug Miller
Sponsorships and Community Outreach Committee

Doug has had two fulfilling careers – the first in the military and a second one is Silicon Valley.  He served as an Army helicopter pilot during two tours in Vietnam, where he witnessed personal hardships and the resilience of many survivors.  During a twenty-eight yearlong career in Silicon Valley, Doug worked in marketing and sales where he learned that if you have a compelling message, there is always a receptive audience if you work hard to find them.

After retiring in 2004, he turned his focus towards his community.  He was appointed as an Alameda County Commissioner for Veterans Affairs, served as Director for East Bay Stand Down, and organized the effort to build the Pleasanton Veterans Memorial. He also worked for the United States Army Wounded Warrior Program as a mentor to severely wounded veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan and currently serves the Pleasanton Unified School District where he is a member of the Citizen’s Bond Oversight Committee.  Along the way, Doug has established many relationships in local business and government organizations.

Noticing several dozen new tiny homes parked in from of CrossWinds Church in early 2021, Doug was intrigued by the idea of a comprehensive approach to addressing the growing unhoused population and chose to get involved in Goodness Village.

Doug and his wife Jan raised three children in Pleasanton after moving from New England more than 30 years ago. Their three adult children have brought forth five amazing and wonderful grandchildren.

Matt VanGent
Finance Committee

Matt is the Executive Pastor at CrossWinds Church and has worked closely on the construction project to get Goodness Village up and running. He was raised in Southern California and has spent all of his adult life living and working near Los Angeles, where he’s served in full-time ministry since graduating from college and absolutely loves the blessing of serving people in the church and in the community.

As a partner and leader for Goodness Village, Matt is really excited about seeing this community grow and flourish. The Tri-Valley has an affordable housing crisis; the church has plenty of land available; what a blessing to be able to help use an existing resource to meet such a crucial need!
